Posted on February 6, 2023

Last week, itslearning announced it was ending service to all of North America.” At first, we were surprised since we’re sure that most public schools throughout the US are heavily using the itslearning LMS platform.

ANNOUNCEMENT

itslearning will exit the US market over time and strengthen its position in Europe.

This strategic decision is part of our parent company Sanoma Learning’s ambition of strengthening itslearning as a leading European LMS provider and extending their position in European core markets.

In line with Sanoma’s communication when acquiring itslearning in 2019, and their strategic focus on the European market; itslearning entered a partnership with Altitude Learning in August 2020 to manage our US customers. That agreement provided Altitude Learning the right to support these customers until the end of the 2021-22 school year and through to the end of current customer contracts beyond that. Any additional business required approval from Sanoma.

Following a strategic decision by the European-based Sanoma Group, itslearning will exit the US market over time. Consequently, there will be no new US contracts or extensions to existing US contracts beyond the terms of the original agreement.

All existing customer contracts will be honored and itslearning will continue to support and update the learning platform with essential fixes and new feature releases for US customers. However, while we envisage feature updates to continue, over time there will be a divergence in the features that are available to customers inside and outside the US. Altitude Learning is committed to continuing to provide excellent service and support through to the end of current contracts.

“We are proud of our partnership with schools, educators and students in the US for more than 10 years. Your commitment in our partnership and investment in improving education has been outstanding. We have seen the positive impact you have had on your students, educators, and families and we have learned a lot as an organization from working with US school owners and educators. We are invested in supporting Altitude Learning through this transition, and we appreciate the good cooperation and partnership during this time,” says Steve Tucker, CEO itslearning.

Opportunities and growth for itslearning going forward
With Sanoma’s strong financial backing and long-term focus, itslearning is strengthening its position as the leading European LMS provider and continues to grow its business across Europe. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, schools and districts have been seeking partners to quickly deploy innovative and practical solutions for digital learning.

Especially in the German market, itslearning is seeing rapid growth and has signed contracts with the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Bremen and the city of Düsseldorf. Further growth is also expected across the Nordics, United Kingdom and Central Europe. As a part of Sanoma Learning the ambition is clear to expand the footprint in digital learning across Europe and to extend the position in the European core markets.

Note: Altitude Learning was renamed Learner-centered Collaborative on July 20th, 2021.
